To adapt to nationwide reforms in medicine and to better meet the mental health needs of patients and their family members, Beijing Huilongguan Hospital began preparations for the integration of social work services in March 2007. The Department of Social Work was formally established in May 2007 to provide mental health services for the community.

　　These mental health services include community-based rehabilitation; follow-up visits to patients after hospital discharge; and information and education regarding mental health issues for patients, their families and the general public. The dissemination of mental health information has been carried out in Beijing in the six public health stations of Yuetan Health Service Center in Xicheng District and in Beidian Jiayuan and Wanrun communities in Huilonguan. Also, psychiatrists have been appointed to support the psychiatric work of the heath station at Dongxiaokou in Changping District. In addition, follow-up visits to discharged patients have been carried out to reinforce treatment compliance and home recovery.
